Local Airport Advisory (LAA) is a service that provides vital information such as wind speed and direction, airport taxi routes, and authorization procedures for arriving and departing aircraft. This is provided by Flight Service Station (FSS) facilities. These are located at the landing airport and allow access to secure ground-to-air communications frequencies on Common Traffic Advisory Frequency (CTAF), continuous data display, direct reading instruments, manual observations, and automated weather voice broadcasting. This communication capability is especially helpful if there is no access to an operating control tower. Remote Airport Advisory (RAA) is a similar service that can be provided by an off-site facility.
